Russian gun sloop

The wreck is located at the bottom of a busy route between Kuutsalo and Vassaari, at a depth of approximately six metres. It was possibly a Russian gun sloop. In 1790, 40 gun sloops were built in Hamina and based on a Swedish model. The vessel sank during the Second Battle of Svensksund. As the battle went on, some of the smallest Russian warships withdrew through the maze-like archipelago towards Hamina. The vessel may have been sunk during the escape or scuttled on purpose.
