Russian caique

The wood material of the wreck located near the southern shores of Tiutinen island is suggestive of Russian origin. It is possibly a Russian caique that sank during the First Battle of Svensksund. Caiques were small vessels that were rowed close to the enemy in battle. Several dozen of these vessels were built at the St. Petersburg galley shipyard between 1767 and 1776. After the Russo-Swedish war, Russians replaced the caique with a more agile Swedish-style gun sloop. The wreck is located close to the shore, which suggests that there were efforts to save it.
