Frigate Ingeborg

The wreck located near Pirkköyri island is the archipelago frigate Ingeborg, an easily rowable warship designed by Swedish boat engineer Fredrik af Chapman. Ingeborg was built at the Djurgårdsvarvet shipyard in 1776. The cannons were positioned in an unusual manner: the two biggest in the bow, eight in the centre and two in the stern. The vessel sailed under the command of Lieutenant Munck. Ingeborg was hit several times close to the waterline during the Second Battle of Svensksund. A burning cannonball hit the vessel and set it on fire. Ingeborg was towed behind the battle lines and left on the Pirkköyri rocks.
